The biggest island of the Tenerife archipelago is, no doubt, the one with a greatest influx of tourists, and has hundreds of beaches throughout its extensive coast: natural and artificial, with rocks, fine golden or white sand, or dark sand and volcanic rock, urban, semiurban, isolated, etc.
The most famous beaches are the ones in the South, with Los Cristianos, Las Vistas, De Troya and Las Galletas standing out. The Playa de los Cristianos, located between the old part of town and the fishing port, with blonde sand, and mild and clear waters. You can enjoy there several artistic manifestations, like dance, theater, carnival and movies. The Los Cristianos Port is very visited because besides being picturesque, from there you can take the ferry to the La Palma, El Hierro or La Gomera Islands.
One of the biggest beaches is Las Vistas, with golden sands and tranquil and transparent waters, and it has a strong service infrastructure. It has a beautiful promenade with cafeterias, restaurants and stores.
The Troya beach, with black sands, more known as the Playa de las Americas, has a big influx of tourists, its waters are excellent for practicing many sports, and it offers a variety of services, including the renting of water sports equipment.
WHERE TO STAY AND HOW TO GO - HOTELS AND FLIGHTS
In Tenerife, the hotel offer is broad, and there are many accommodations options for the budget conscious traveller as well as those seeking luxury. The flights, with stopovers in Madrid are many, with reasonable prices, so it's easy to get to Tenerife.
Another one of the very popular beaches of the island is the Playa de las Teresitas, right in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is an artificial beach.
Its sands were brought from the Sahara, and it's got clear waters, ideal for a family visit. Many water sports are practiced here. The gastronomic and hotel offer is varied and high quality.
ACTIVITIES - WHAT TO DO
Given the numerous amount of beaches we can find in Tenerife, we'll group them according to the type of sand. Playa del Bobo, La Caleta, La Pinta, Del Camisón, and El Médano all have golden sands. La Playa del Duque and Fanabé have gray sand. And there are also excellent beaches with fine black sand, like Playa de la Arena, one of the best on the north side of Tenerife, and another one to stand out is the Playa de la Arena, or Playa Argel. This is a beautiful black sand beach located in the tourist center of the Acantilado de los Gigantes, from where we can take delight with the astonishing panoramic view of the Acantilado de los Gigantes.
In Tenerife you'll also find several nudist beaches, like Playa de los Patos, Playa de Diego Hernández, Playa de Montaña Amarilla, Playa de Montaña Pelada, Playa de Montaña Roja, Playa Las Gaviotas, etc.
